Today, Zech completed the last 2 pages of his second Mathematics exercise book. Searched high and low for his first book but it must be packed away somewhere deep in my storeroom. I've only the second Math exercise book.
First page of the second Math exercise book. Done at the beginning of the year.
Last page in the exercise book. Completed this week.
Managed to dig out all the other exercise books. Feeling nostalgic as I compared now and then.
Zech's first and second spelling books.
His first spelling last year with his recent one.
Selected common words which help him in writing recounts and stories. A week ago, we have progressed to 10 words as I sense his readiness to learn more.
Was surprised I found 3 of his Chinese Handwriting and Spelling books! Didn't know I made him write so many Chinese characters.
His first spelling last year with another done earlier this year.
Recent spelling.
Selected the words from his enrichment and homeschool textbooks. As you can see, I chose relatively simple ones to build confidence and to sustain interest. I know he has quite a bit to catch up on writing before he starts P1. But I'm proud of his progress so far. At least in his handwriting, he tries to be neat.
As I looked back, I have a lot to be thankful for. We do struggle through sometimes. But I'm very glad I don't face strong resistance from Zech when it comes to work. Sometimes he gets tired from doing the same stuff every week. However, he still managed to persevere and complete his work. There are days I need to sit down with him to make sure he finishes all his work but most days, he is fine on his own. And I'm grateful for that. The accomplishment is not in completing pages and pages of work in these exercise books. Rather, it's the consistency and motivation that propel one forward to complete work neatly. Zech is working his way there and hopefully one day soon, he will cultivate the habit of diligence, which will see him through a long way in life. That is definitely more important than getting all the right answers.
